On-Site Shredding for Data Centers: Secure, High-Volume Data Destruction

Our on-site shredding service meets the needs of data centers, providing secure, high-volume destruction of hard drives, solid-state drives, and other sensitive IT assets. We bring our shredding equipment directly to your facility, ensuring that no data ever leaves your premises. ON SITE SHREDDING

On site shredding of hard drives, solid state drives, and other data-bearing media is a convenient solution for securing data on large volumes of IT assets.

Mobile trucks shred hard drives, solid state drives and other storage media on-site, at your facility. Offering convenience and peace of mind for you. Hard drive shredding is particularly suitable for large volumes of drives and is ideal for large data centers, sensitive data, or immediate destruction.

Hard drive shredding destroys a hard drive by physically breaking it into small pieces. Shredding uses sharp blades and sieves to grind and cut the equipment into small pieces, typically no larger than a few millimetres in size.

We provide on site degaussing, puncturing, shredding and software data erasure, suitable for various storage media including HDDs, SSDs and more.

DEGAUSSING HARD DRIVES

Degaussing erases all information on storage devices and renders hard drives inoperable, meaning it can never be reused.

Degaussing is a process that erases data from storage devices by exposing them to a magnetic field. Degaussing hard drive, sometimes known as purging, works by applying a powerful magnetic field that disrupts and disorders the disk, making the data unrecoverable. 

SK Tes’ onsite degaussing service applies an electromagnetic pulse of 9000 Oersteds, almost twice the level of the coercivity of today’s hard drives, to erase all information. The hard drive is rendered inoperable during this process and cannot be reused.

SOFTWARE DATA ERASURE

Software is used to erase data from storage devices either on site at your facility, or off site in an SK Tes secure ITAD facility.

Secure your data and reputation with data sanitization solutions through advanced overwriting, meeting the stringent NIST 800-88 standards and IEEE 2883-2022 standards.

Specialized software is used to perform data erasure by overwriting existing date in binary format with random characters, making the data irrecoverable. 

Data erasure is a great option because it allows storage media to be reused, allowing for improved value recovery, and environmental outcomes. 

PUNCTURING

Puncturing requires machinery that punches multiple pins into the storage device to render the data unreadable and unrecoverable.

The process of puncturing SSDs is slightly different from shredding. At your location, we place drives into machinery containing a press that punctures multiple pins into the hard drive and the chips contained within them which completely annihilates the data contained.

Once the memory chips are destroyed following the puncturing process, the drive is littered with holes.

  • Consulting and planning data destruction method before materials are handed over to us.

    The process starts with initial consultation and planning to understand your specific data destruction needs. This includes identifying the type and quantities of data-bearing devices, such as hard drives, SSDs, tapes or mobile devices that require destruction, and the location and nature of data contained on the devices, SK Tes will recommend the data destruction method best suited to your needs.

  • Devices are are individually tracked by serial number, and verified against an an inventory list to ensure all data media items are accounted for. Detailed documentation is maintained throughout the process to ensure a complete and accurate record that is traceable on the SK Tes Client Portal.

  • Once your data and format requirements are fully clear, state-of-the-art data destruction equipment is brought directly to your location, including industrial shredders, degaussers, and data wiping software. The equipment renders data completely irretrievable. 

  • After data destruction, SK Tes performs a final verification to ensure that all data devices have been destroyed.

  • A Certificate of Data Destruction (CODD) is provided, which serves as a formal record that data has been securely and permanently eradicated.

    The secure chain of custody is a critical element in the data destruction process, ensuring that the integrity and security of the data are maintained from collection to final destruction.

What is on site shredding or mobile shredding?

On site or mobile shredding of hard drives is the process of physically destroying hard drives by reducing them to small pieces using a shredder on your premises. This ensures that your confidential data are irretrievable and that you comply with data protection regulations. 

How is data destruction different to data deletion?

Data deletion refers to the process of removing data or files from a system or device. This effectively hides the data or makes it inaccessible via regular access but does not physically remove data from the storage device or drive. 

Data destruction permanently destroys the data stored on a device so that it cannot be recovered or reconstructed. Depending on the type of storage media you use, there are several options available to ensure that data are permanently erased. Some of the most common methods are overwriting with software (or data erasure), degaussing, and physical destruction (including shredding). 

How big is an on site shredding vehicle?

On site shredding vehicles come in different shapes and sizes. Typically, they are designed to be compact yet spacious enough to accommodate the shredding equipment and a holding area.  

Can mobile phones be shredded on site?

Yes, mobile phones can be shredded for data security. Shredding a phone is a secure way of destroying the data it contains. The process involves physically breaking the phone into small pieces that cannot be reassembled, ensuring that any sensitive data on the phone is completely destroyed.  

It is essential to remove batteries before shredding mobile phones.  

What is degaussing?

Data degaussing is a method used to erase data from magnetic storage devices, such as hard drives and tapes, by applying a powerful magnetic field. This process disrupts the magnetic domains on the storage medium, effectively rendering the data unreadable and irrecoverable.

The process requires a degausser, a specialized device that generates the strong magnetic field necessary to neutralize the magnetic signals on the storage media. It's important to note that degaussing is generally irreversible and will render the storage device unusable, as it disrupts the magnetic alignment needed for the device to function properly.
