SK Tes Repurposes Over 6 Million Assets in 2023 and Shares Plans to Pioneer Sustainable Growth in ITAD and Recycling Sectors
Singapore, May 13, 2024 - Globally recognized for its commitment to environmental sustainability and sustainable technology lifecycle services, SK Tes is proud to announce that over 6 million assets were repurposed for reuse or recycling in 2023. This milestone highlights SK Tes' leadership in the IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) and recycling industry.
SK Tes is advancing its mission to securely and sustainably recycle 1 billion kilograms of technology devices by 2030. In 2023, SK Tes processed 101,766,393 kg of equipment, including 6.2 million technology devices, and is on track to meet its 'Decade of Difference' commitment.
The UN’s fourth Global E-waste Monitor reported a record 62 million tonnes of e-waste produced in 2022, projected to rise to 82 million tonnes by 2030. To address this challenge, SK Tes is doubling its facilities in Recklinghausen, Germany, and Seattle, USA, increasing global processing capacity to 2.7 million square feet.
Earlier this year, SK Tes opened a flagship ITAD site in Virginia, supporting hyperscale data centers in the region. This expansion reflects SK Tes' commitment to enhancing global ITAD and recycling infrastructure under its parent company, SK ecoplant.
"Our goal is not just to grow but to lead the way in sustainable technology solutions," said Eric Ingebretsen, Chief Commercial Officer. "The market is robust, and the need for solutions has never been greater. We are excited about the future and remain committed to making a significant impact in the recycling and ITAD sectors."
SK Tes is also collaborating globally, including an MOU with SMFL for battery recycling in Japan and a joint venture in Vietnam for ITAD processing. These initiatives align with future plans for e-waste and battery recycling.
In response to the expected retirement of over 100 million electric vehicle batteries in the next decade, SK Tes is ramping up operations at its battery recycling facility in the Netherlands and breaking ground on a new European site. This complements existing facilities in Germany, France, Singapore, and China, supporting the growing need for battery recycling solutions.
"As we stand at the precipice of an electric mobility revolution, the need for comprehensive recycling solutions has never been more urgent," said Thomas Holberg, Chief Operating Officer. "Our expansion in Europe underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship and supports the region's electric vehicle production."
Since 2005, SK Tes has been a global leader in secure and sustainable technology lifecycle services, operating over 40 facilities across 23 countries. The company remains dedicated to its mission of transforming one billion kilograms of assets by 2030.
