Building Connections Through Commerce
I’m Tobias Jestel, e-Commerce Manager at SK tes in Recklinghausen, Germany. I’ve worked in e-commerce for most of my career, combining my love of technology, efficiency, and customer experience to help connect people with the products they need.
From Fashion to Digital Frontiers
My career began in the early 2000s, when I completed my apprenticeship as an office communications specialist in the fashion industry. Even then, I was fascinated by the rise of online shopping, the idea that countless products could be accessed instantly, far beyond what any shop floor could hold.
My first role at Tredex, a small start-up, gave me the chance to blend that fascination with my background in fashion. We began selling sneakers on eBay, and before long, I was helping to launch and manage the company’s first online store. It was an exciting time to be in e-commerce - everything was new, fast-moving, and full of possibility.
Freedom to Shape and Space to Grow
Today, at SK tes, I have the freedom to manage and develop our e-commerce operations with a strong sense of ownership. I appreciate being trusted to make decisions and having the space to refine how we work. Our products are genuinely interesting, especially since I enjoy working with technology in my personal life, too.
That combination: freedom, trust, and meaningful products - makes my work here both engaging and fulfilling.
Learning, Adapting, and Growing
Starting out at SK tes came with its challenges. There were plenty of rules and processes to learn, and it took time to get familiar with them all. But I was never on my own - my colleagues were always willing to help and share their knowledge. That support made all the difference.
Making e-Commerce Circular
One of the highlights of my role has been improving how we manage and present refurbished products online. Through more integrated systems and centralized data management, we can now showcase high-quality reused equipment across multiple platforms, from our own web shop to eBay and Amazon.
Every sale represents more than just a transaction - it’s a step towards a circular economy. By bringing refurbished and recovered products back into circulation, we reduce the need for new materials and help our customers make more sustainable choices.
Flexibility That Works
Another major advantage of working at SK tes is flexibility. I have the opportunity to work from home regularly, which makes it easier to balance work and personal life - something I really value.
Purpose in Every Sale
What makes SK tes truly special is the sense of purpose that runs through everything we do. We’re not just innovating; we’re making a difference - helping to create a more sustainable future through the responsible management of technology.
It’s rewarding to be part of a team that believes in what it does and to see that purpose reflected in the results of our work every day.
Values That Align
Working for a sustainability-focused organization like SK tes fits perfectly with my own values. It’s encouraging to know that every step we take in e-commerce contributes to a much larger mission - one that has a positive impact on the environment and on how technology is used and reused.
